Mic Pogo is a multi-instrumentalist, experimental and progressive recording musician BASED in SEATTLE, always cultivating new genres and soundpools for listeners to swim in.
At 11 years old, I began my journey into recording music via an analog 4-track Tascam recorder, back in 1991. Growing up in central NJ, throughout the 80’s, I was heavily influenced by rap music from Run DMC, Public Enemy & Beastie Boys. I rode the classic hard rock and alternative/metal train while learning the guitar & drums thru the music of Iron Butterfly, Cream, Nirvana & Metallica during my pre-teenage years in the early 90's. Jazz & prog rock/fusion jumped to the forefront of my listening and musical learning via the music of Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return To Forever, Frank Zappa & King Crimson in the mid-late 90's. After a trip to India in 2000, I started craving anything that had an Indian or Bollywood style flare to it which took to my essence as a human being and started to help develop my original musical style. I became heavily influenced by both the traditional and modern electronica scenes coming out of India and NYC while living in NJ & Vermont, after i graduated high school. About the same time I began exploring music from South America, Europe and Africa, pretty much any type of world music that was true to its source that was at least passionate and had soul, albeit whatever the genre it was. Around the early 00’s, I discovered the vast musical world of Japan thru such magnificent and prolific musicians as Cornelius, Buffalo Daughter, Pizzicato 5, Shugo Tokumaru and countless others. Eventually I worked my way to playing Balkan and Klezmer style music after moving to Seattle, WA in 2007. Although I’ve been influenced by countless forms + genres of music, I always aim to create the purest form of original & creative music. My music is created for listeners who want to go beyond the normal spectrum of life + art as it is intended as a soundtrack for the passionately joyous, dark, futuristic and sometimes somber, psychedelic aspects of life. My goal is to make music for visual media such as TV, film & video games in the process of all of my musical creations. I’ve currently recorded 14 albums of music so please check out my discography page on Bandcamp. There are only 10 available albums on there, as there are a few older albums that I will be adding soon. Thank you for listening!!!
